THE MINORITY YOUTH WRITERS LAB

A LITERARY NON-PROFIT SPECIALIZING IN THE ACADEMIC AND CREATIVE ADVANCEMENT OF YOUNG MINORITY WRITERS

Our Mission?
To place young minority writers in a professional environment that resembles both a college classroom and a “micro” writers room in order to promote the visibility of diverse talent within both the traditional academy and larger creative industries.

Kayla Hardy, President

As a creative writing PhD student in the department of English at SUNY Binghamton, Kayla was one of two chosen PhD students out of the entire university to receive a public humanities fellowship on behalf of Humanities New York, a position which allowed her to conceptualize The Minority Youth Writers Lab as being a public service project that would aid high school minority students in the Broome County area of New York.

Shortly after, during summer 2019 Kayla was chosen as an incubating fellow at the Los Angeles Review of Books + The University of Southern California Summer Publishing Workshop, a fellowship which allowed her to take the project to the next level.

Inspired by her own trials as a minority creative writer and academic, Kayla founded the MYWL as a way to create greater avenues of access for underrepresented writers.
